August Pose of the Month ~ Utthita Trikonasana ~ Extended Triangle Pose

  1. From a grounded Tadasana step right foot to the right one legs distance.
  2. Turn right foot forward and left foot 45 degrees or parallel to the back edge of the mat depending on left hip flexibility.
  3. With the spine perpendicular to the earth, long and lengthened extend both arms out allowing the shoulders to release down the back towards the hips.
  4. Reach forward keeping the shoulders parallel to the earth without rounding forward.
  5. Once you have reached your edge lower your right hand on to you shin, ankle, or wherever you hand lands naturally.  The arms windmill as they stay on the same plane.
  6. Sweep your right hip under as you roll open your left hip stacking your hips as best as possible keeping you lungs, chest and heart open.
  7. Forehead is slightly above the chin as the cervical spine is in alignment.  If there is any discomfort in the neck simply bring it to a comfortable position.
  8. Allow the heart to open wide and the shoulder to follow.  The body is placed like it is between two panes of glass.
  9. Breathe, Breathe, Breathe for at least 5 breaths.
  10. Repeat on the left side.
